LatitudeU offers SkillSoft courses for the Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) Continuing Education Program.

Anyone interested in learning more about BRN and their CE program are encouraged to visit the Board of Registered Nurses website, www.rn.ca.gov

Who is the California Board of Registered Nurses?
The Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) is a state governmental agency established by law to protect the public by regulating the practice of registered nurses. The BRN is responsible for implementation and enforcement of the Nursing Practice Act: the laws related to nursing education, licensure, practice, and discipline. The Nursing Practice Act created a nine-member Board which serves as the BRN decision-making body.

What is the BRN CE program?
Since July 1, 1978, California registered nurses have been required to document continued competency by completing a minimum of 30 contact hours every two years in subjects relevant to the practice of nursing. Courses must be taken from providers approved by the BRN or other entities recognized by the Board.

What is SkillSoft's affiliation?
SkillSoft is an approved licensed Continuing Education Provider in the State of California. Through this honor, SkillSoft has been recognized as a provider of continuing education courses to assist California Registered Nurses in their ongoing professional development. View Approved Course List.

How are BRN CEU credits earned?

  • One (1) CEU credit is received for every 60 minutes of SkillSoft content completed. CEU credit for courses that are 2.5 hours or 3.5 hours in duration would be 2.5 CEU's or 3.5 CEU's.
  • One (1) CEU (continuing education unit) is equal to (1) continuing education contact hours.
  • Each contact hour is at least 50 minutes of instruction in an organized learning experience.
  • Courses less than one hour (60 minutes) in duration will not be approved.

How do I obtain my Certification of Completion?
Individuals seeking CEU credit must provide a printed test report of successful course completion to SkillSoft. This printout should include your name, registered nurse license number or other identification number, the test score, and the title of the course. A score greater than 70% is required to receive CEU credit. This report should be mailed, faxed or emailed to:
